Middle East passenger traffic increases 14 per cent

Region experiences fastest growth in the world

Middle East carriers recorded a 14.3 per cent increase in passenger traffic in the year to the end of October, the fastest growth from any region in the world.

Global passenger traffic grew just 0.5 per cent year-on-year.

Carriers in all regions had greater demand in October than in September, except for the Middle East, Asia Pacific and North America.

The Middle East recorded an 18.2 per cent year-on-year increase in September.

Passenger traffic in North America fell 2.6 per cent in the year to October.

Air freight increased 18.4 per cent in the region, an improvement on the 3.6 per cent growth in the year to the end of September.

The region’s carriers are continuing to add capacity at a greater pace than the growing demand. Capacity in the Middle East increased 15.3 per cent in October.
