Midmac wins NDIA roads

16 September 2005
The local Midmac Contracting has won the latest major contract on the New Doha International Airport (NDIA) project, having been awarded in late August the QR 717 million ($197 million) airside/landside roads and parking package. The award is the 11th on the estimated $2,500 million development which is being handled by the NDIA Steering Committee; US-based Bechtelis its engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contractor (MEED 15:7:05).

Midmac was the low bidder for the package when bids were opened in July from four contractors. The 28-month design and build contract covers all vehicular roads, parking, stormwater drainage, street lighting and signage on the project. Midmac's subconsultant is the UK's Atkins.

The next award on the NDIA project is expected to be for the landscaping package. In addition, technical bid evaluation is ongoing for the control tower, the airline support, the airline operations and the utility packages (MEED 14:8:05).

In total, there are more than 20 separate packages on the NDIA project. Bidding is well under way on the largest, the passenger terminal, while 14 prequalifiers have recently been invited to pick up tender documents for the Emiri flight terminal (MEED 2:9:05).
