The Defence Ministry has issued an invitation to negotiate for developers to build a tri-services training college in Muscat. Five groups are thought to be eyeing the estimated $100 million-150 million scheme, which will be the first military installation to be funded through a private finance initiative (PFI) model in the Gulf (Oman, MEED Special Report, 26:4:02, page 36).
The prospective bidders are understood to include Jarvisof the UK, with the local Zubair Enterprise; BAE Systemsof the UK; the UK/local Tarmac Alawi; International Trainingof Australia; and Bahwan Trading Company, with a UK-based partner. The deadline for bids is late July.
The selected developer will be responsible for the design, construction, implementation and financing of the entire project.
