UK-based hotel group will manage hotel at Asian Beach Games site

UK-based Millennium & Copthorne Hotels has been awarded a contract by local developer Omran to manage a hotel at the Asian Beach Games site, in Mussanah to north of the sultanate’s capital Muscat.

The four-star hotel will contain 250 rooms, restaurants, swimming pool and associated sports and leisure facilities.

The hotel, which is currently under construction, will be open in time for the beach games event, which starts on 8 December this year.

The hotel will form part of the one million square metre beach games development, which will comprise villages that will house up to 3,000 athletes and grandstands to accommodate up to 5,000 spectators, restaurants and other recreational facilities.

“About 66 per cent of the overall construction work on the beach games development has been completed, and the project is on track to be completed by November,” says Wael al-Lawati, chief executive, Omran.

Omran is the government’s tourism development and investment arm.

The client is the Sports Affairs Ministry and the Oman Olympic Committee.

Millennium & Copthorne recently announced plans to build six new five-star hotels in the Middle East, in the UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman and Yemen (MEED 21:3:10).
