Japan's Mitsui Engineering & Shipbuilding (MES)and the local Petrochemical Industries Design & Engineering Company (PIDEC)signed the contract in mid-November to build a new mono-ethylene glycol (MEG) plant at Gachsaran, along the route of the new western ethylene pipeline.
The client is Bakhtar Petrochemical Company, an affiliate of National Petrochemical Company (NPC- Petrochemicals, MEED Special Report, 28:10:05, pages 42-43). The 42-month turnkey contract involves the licence provision, basic and detailed engineering, equipment procurement and supply, construction, pre-commissioning, commissioning and start-up of the new plant. The facility will have capacity of 500,000 tonnes a year (t/y) of MEG, 50,000 t/y of di-ethylene oxide, 3,500 t/y of tri-ethylene oxide and 100,000 t/y of high-purity ethylene oxide. Gachsaran is located in Kohgilooye & Boyer-Ahmad Province, about 150 kilometres east of Bandar Imam.
