MobileCom files industrial espionage suit against Fastlink

24 September 2003
MobileCom announced on 24 September that is was taking legal action against Jordan Mobile Telephone Services (Fastlink) for industrial espionage. 'We believe that Fastlink approached some MobileCom employees and paid them for information,' said MobileCom chief executive Mikhael Ghossein. 'The case is ongoing. I will not say anymore, but I believe that we have a solid case.' Although the company has not said what information was passed on to Fastlink, it is thought that marketing strategies and new offers could have been leaked, reported local daily Jordan Times.

Competition between Jordan's two mobile telephone networks has been intense as they battle for the rapidly increasing number of users. Mobile telephone penetration has increased from 2.4 per cent in 2000 to the present 21.1 per cent. The number of mobile lines exceeded the number of fixed lines in 2001 (MEED 8:9:03; 15:8:03).
