Mobily group in fibre-optic deal

12 June 2006

France's Thales, together with its local subsidiary Saudi Technical Engineering Systems Associated (STESA), signed on 6 June the estimated $250 million contract to install a fibre optic network in the kingdom's main cities.

The project, which involves the installation of more than 10,000 kilometres of cable, is aimed at providing high-speed data to homes. The client is a consortium of three local companies. They are: Mobily, the kingdom's second GSM operator; Bayanat al-Oula; and Integrated Telecom Company (ITC - MEED 2:6:06).
