More Dolphin subcontracts let

Japan's JGC Corporationhas awarded two more subcontracts on the Ras Laffan gas processing and compression plant project. Saudi Arabia's Nasser al-Hajrihas taken the civils subcontract package, valued at about $70 million, while Japan's Taisei Corporationhas been awarded the buildings package, worth about $40 million. Further subcontract awards are pending, including the mechanical and instrumentation works.

The Dolphin subcontract, which will take about two years to complete, is Nasser al-Hajri's second major award in the local oil and gas sector. It is working in joint venture with Italy's Astaldion the main construction package for the Oryx GTLplant, also at Ras Laffan (MEED 28:2:03). The Dolphin buildings package is Taisei's first major award in the local market.

JGC awarded in mid-2004 the Dolphin site preparation package to Turkey's Gamaand the temporary site buildings to Qatar Kentz.

The Japanese contractor signed in mid-January the estimated $1,600 million contract to build the Ras Laffan plant, which will have capacity of 2,600 million cubic feet a day and supply gas into the Dolphin pipeline project (MEED 28:5:04; 16:1:04).
