More time for Burj Dubai as bidders are added to list

07 June 2004
The bid closing date has been extended by three weeks to 4 July for the main package on the Burj Dubai tower project. About seven international groups were originally prequalified for the contract, but it is understood that several companies, including some from China, have been added to the list.

The contract centres on the construction of a 705-metre-high structure, which will house offices, apartments and a hotel. The successful bidder is expected to move on site in the first quarter of 2005, with completion set for mid-2008. The US' Turner Internationalis the project manager on the Emaar Propertiesproject; the design consultant is Skidmore Owings & Merrill, also of the US (MEED 23:4:04).

Emaar is also evaluating about five bids for the Dubai Mall package, which calls for the construction of the world's biggest shopping mall (MEED 28:5:04).
