Sites for the solar schemes will be located near the towns of Tata and Midelt
Morocco is set to tender two new solar projects near the towns of Tata and Midelt, as it attempts to hit its target of 2GW solar capacity by 2020.
The bidding process will be launched for these projects this year, said Mustapha Bakkoury, the president of the Moroccan Agency for Solar Enegy.
Bakkoury added that the capacity of the projects was not yet finalised, but combined they are expected to exceed 500MW.
Officials are also yet to decide on whether the schemes would use photovoltaic (PV) or concentrated solar power (CSP) technology.
We are still looking at what would be the best technology for these sites, Bakkoury said.
