UK-based Mott Macdonald has been appointed by the Abu Dhabi General Services Company (Musanada) to provide construction supervision services for infrastructure works on its AED7bn ($1.9bn) Shamkha South development.
Mott Macdonald will provide supervision services for infrastructure section 3, one of four sections covering a total of 9.6 square kilometres of the development.
The UK consultancy firm will provide construction supervision for all of the infrastructure in section 3, which will include 80km of road works, a 110km wastewater system and 90km of potable water networks. The infrastructure works will also involve the construction of a power distribution system, a storm water drainage network and provisions for a telecommunication network.
The Shamkha South development is located on the emirate’s mainland about 50km south of Abu Dhabi island. It covers a total area of 40 sq km and is expected to house up to 200,000 residents in 43 neighbourhoods. It will feature parks, shops, mosques, hospitals, shopping and retail facilities, clinics, health clubs, schools, playgrounds and entertainment areas. The infrastructure also has a green belt connecting the parks with the city centre (MEED 18:3:11).
