Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund to build plant in China with local specialist

The Abu Dhabi sovereign wealth fund Mubadala has formed a joint venture with Zhenjiang Coking Gas Group Company to build a calcined petroleum coke (CPC) plant in the Zhenjiang, Jiangsu province of China.

CPC is used for the production of aluminium and the offtake of the plant will be used by the Emirates Aluminium (Emal) smelter located in Abu Dhabi. The smelter is owned by Mubadala in a 50:50 joint venture with Dubai Aluminium.

CPC is used to make the anodes that are used in the smelting process.

The Emal smelter is currently initiating its phase II, which will see it expanding its operations and increasing its capacity to about 1.8 million tonnes a year.
