Building has been designed with a number of advanced features
Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar) has awarded the contract to build its new headquarters building to Canada’s Brookfield Multiplex.
The building will have a number of advanced features to improve its environmental performance. It will be fitted with 1,000 square-metres of rooftop photovoltaic solar panels and will use 50 per cent less water than a typical building in Abu Dhabi.
The building will have a built-up area of about 32,000 square metres and is about one third of the size of the original building first tendered in 2008. According to Masdar: “The headquarters adheres to updates from the 2011 redesign, which was made to meet market demand and allow for the integration of newer technologies.”
The building will also house the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and is set for completion in mid-2014.
Australia’s Woods Bagot prepared the architectural concept for the building.
