The new Naga Hammadi barrage will be built3.5 kilometres downstream from the existing dam.

Civil works, accounting for about 55 per cent of project costs, include a low-head hydro-powerhouse, a gated sluiceway and a double navigation lock.

The other three packages are for hydro-mechanical equipment, four double- regulated bulb turbines with a total capacity of 64 MW, and electrical equipment.

A full list of prequalifiers for the four packages was published in MEED 31:3:00). The consultants are a team of Lahmeyer International of Germany, Electrowatt Engineering Services of Switzerland and Sogreah of France.
