The joint venture (JV) of the local Nass Contracting with Kuwait's Burhan International Construction Company received a provisional letter of intent in early August for the main construction contract on the planned King Hamad General Hospital at Muharraq. The contract value is BD 49.2 million ($129.5 million MEED 24:2:06).
The Nass/Burhan JV was low bidder for the job when prices were opened in mid-February, with bids ranging from BD 49.5 million-50 million ($130.3 million-131.6 million), which were below those offered by the local Ahmed Mansour al-A'Ali with France's Bouygues.The project entails the construction of a 312-bed hospital, built to allow possible expansion by some 200 beds. Australian Hospital Design Group drew up the designs. A team of the Works & Housing Ministry and the Health Ministry is the client.
