New central bank HQ takes shape

19 September 2003
The US-based HOK Architects was awarded in early September the contract to design the proposed new headquarters building for the Central Bank of Kuwait.

The US firm beat off competition from 15 local and international firms to win the design competition (Kuwait, MEED Special Report, 21:2:03, page 29).

The project calls for the construction of a 40-storey triangular-shaped tower along Gulf Street in Kuwait City. The truncated tower will be topped by a glass viewing platform, which will be lit to form a beacon at night. The scheme is estimated to cost KD 30 million ($100 million).

HOK will be assisted by the local Pan Arab Consulting Engineers (PACE), and three UK firms - Hyder Consulting(civil and structural engineer), Roberts & Partners(mechanical and electrical consultant) and Davis Langdon & Everest(quantity surveyor).

The project manager is the US' DMJM Internationalwith the local Project Analysis & Control Systems (Projacs).
