New colleges planned at university

The US' Cambridge 7 Associates along with the local Gulf Consult has been awarded a contract to design a new petroleum engineering and school of architecture complex at Shuwaikh.

Estimated to cost KD 30 million ($100 million), the project will cover the construction of single and double-storey buildings to serve various academic subjects, laboratories, landscaping, a car park and related facilities.

Design work is due to start in early 2004 and will take 18 months to complete. The contract is likely to be tendered in a single package and will take about two years to complete. The client is Kuwait University.

More colleges are planned for construction in Kuwait. Gulf Consult is due to complete by early 2004 the design for a proposed college of business studies at Ardiya (MEED 1:8:03).

The project calls for the construction of 23 buildings, a library and related works.
