New unit for Mina al-Fahal

Oman Refinery Company (ORC)has invited four international consultants to bid by 30 October for the contract to draw up front-end engineering and designs (FEED) for an isomerisation unit at Mina al-Fahal refinery. The prospective bidders are: Mott MacDonaldof the UK; Tebodin Middle East, part of Tebodinof the Netherlands; Granherne & Companyof the US; and Electrowatt Engineering Servicesof Switzerland.

UOPof the US is the technology licensor for the proposed unit, which will have capacity to produce 10,000 barrels a day (b/d) of unleaded gasoline. Feedstock will come from a mixture of light naphtha, already produced at Mina al-Fahal, and condensate supplied by Oman LNG. A tender for the main engineering, procurement and construction package is expected in the first half of 2003.

In June, South Korea's SK Engineering & Constructionwas awarded the contract to install a 15,000-b/d diesel hydro-desulphurisation unit at the refinery (MEED 7:6:02).
