The companies are the local Desert Line Projects, India’s Nagarjuna Construction Company, Kuwait’s Combined Group Contracting Company, South Korea’s Samwhan Corporation, South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction, India’s Larsen & Toubro, Austria’s Strabag, Germany’s CZMT Invest, and the local Bahwan Contracting.

The town, on the eastern tip of the country, is a popular tourist destination and the new airport is intended to help visitors avoid a long road journey from the capital.

It is one of six airports being developed by the government. Others are planned at Sohar, Duqm, Adam, Haima and Shaleem (MEED 25:02:08).

The Ministry of Transport and Communication is the client.
