Nine groups submit bids for Duqm airport work

11 January 2010

Winner will build infrastructure for runway

Oman’s Transport & Communications Ministry has received nine bids for the second infrastructure package on Duqm airport.

The bids were submitted on 28 December, after the ministry had previously extended the deadline from 16 November.

The bidders include Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company, South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries, India’s Larsen & Toubro, and two Turkish companies, Erenport Group and Makyol. Bids were also submitted by four local groups, Strabag Oman, Desert Line Projects, Galfar Engineering & Contractors, and Al-Shanfari.

The successful bidder will build infrastructure for a runway at the airport.

Desert Line Projects won a previous infrastructure package, worth $71m, in September 2008.

The Transport & Communications Ministry is also evaluating bids for the consultancy contract to supervise the construction of the airport. So far, it has received offers from Denmark’s Cowi and the local Ibn Khaldun Almadaen Engineering Consultants.

The airport project is part of a larger plan to improve the overall transport infrastructure at Duqm, including building a new dry dock and a ship-building facility in the city.
