Nine prequalified for TangMed second stage work

11 June 2004
A total of nine companies and groups have been prequalified by the Tangier-Mediterranean Special Agency (TMSA) for the second phase of infrastructure work on the kingdom's flagship Tangier-Mediterranean port project (TangMed). Fourteen groups applied for prequalification in late April (MEED 7:5:04).

The work is divided into three lots calling for the construction of a 1,400-metre-long main quay superstructure with an alongside draught of 16 metres, four roll-on, roll-off (ro-ro) terminals with alongside draughts of 12 metres, and site excavation and servicing. TMSA plans to award the contracts in October.

A consortium led by France's Bouygues was awarded the $246 million first-phase contract last June for preliminary port works. The UK's Halcrow is the construction supervisor (MEED 20:6:03).

TMSA is also evaluating joint financial and technical bids from 12 prequalified groups for the 30-year concession to build and operate the planned container terminal and is expected to shortlist four companies to make best and final offers for the contract in July (MEED 16:1:04).
