NPCC wins Al-Khalij expansion

Abu Dhabi's National Petroleum Construction Company (NPCC)signed on 25 July the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract for the Al-Khalij field expansion project. Placed by TotalFinaElf E&P Qatar, the 20-month contract, valued at an estimated $60 million, will raise production capacity at the field by 20,000 barrels a day (b/d) to 80,000 b/d by April 2004 (MEED 28:6:02).

The contract involves the supply and installation of a wellhead platform, a processing platform, 16 kilometres of subsea pipeline and a 10-kilometre power cable. The new facilities will be installed in the northern area of the offshore field.

The contract is the third major EPC award for NPCC on Al-Khalij. The company was the offshore EPC contractor for the central and eastern area developments, launched in 1997 and 2001 respectively.

The other bidders for the latest contract included Dubai-based J Ray McDermott Middle Eastand South Korea's Hyundai Heavy Industries.
