Occidental is working with QP to evaluate and implement new technologies to further increase the recovery rate of the field.
It said its three-year development plan would result in 70 additional production and water injection wells drilled, along with three new platforms. Existing facilities will also be upgraded under the plan.
Production fell to a low of about 20,000 b/d in the early 1990s but is thought to now be above 100,000 b/d.
Idd al-Shargi north is operated by Occidental under a development and production-sharing agreement signed with QP in 1994. The two companies signed a similar deal in 1997 for the south dome.
