Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has named Bank Muscat as the the financial adviser for its project to build a new independent water and power project in Oman.
Bank Muscat will work alongside the UK’s Project Financing Solutions.
OPWP has also appointed the UK’s Berwin Leighton Paisner as its legal adviser and Switzerland’s Electrowatt as its technical adviser.
OPWP says it will issue a request for qualifications within four months.
The plant, known as Barka 3, will have a capacity of 700MW and 26 million gallons a day of water and is due to begin operation in 2011.
The company expects to award a separate contract to identify the best fuel for the project before the end of June.
OPWP has received six bids for the scheme, which will assess the viability of using alternatives to natural gas to fuel power plants (MEED 25:04:08).
