The Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (Madayn) has awarded Oman Investment & Development Holding Company (Mubadrah) a public-private partnership (PPP) contract to manage and develop Rusayl Industrial City.
Established in 1983, Rusayl Industrial City is located about 20 kilometres outside of Muscat and covers an area of about 8 square kilometres.
The PPP deal with Mubadrah covers the existing operations at the industrial city and the development of new facilities. These include buildings, infrastructure, and services ranging from telecoms and electricity to sewage and water supply.
Mubadrah plans to spend about RO50m ($130m) on expanding and upgrading Rusayl Industrial City in 2019.
For ongoing operations, Mubadrah will manage and operate Rusayl Industrial City by leasing the land and its existing buildings and facilities. It will also be responsible for promoting the city domestically and internationally.
Once Mubadarah is established running the industrial city, Madayn expects its role by 2022 to be limited to planning, regulating, monitoring and following-up on the operations and development of the industrial city.
Maydan’s other developments include the Knowledge Oasis Muscat, and industrial parks in Sohar, Raysut, Sur, Nizwa, Buraimi, Al-Mazunah and Samail.
