Contractors have until 6 September to submit bids

Oman Gas Company has invited contractors to bid to build natural gas pipelines to supply the sultanate’s latest independent power projects (IPPs) at Barka and Sohar.

Bidders have until 6 September to submit bids for the engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contract.

A consortium comprising France’s GDF Suez, Japan’s Yonden, Japanese investment firm Sojitz and Oman’s Bahwan Engineering, was selected to build both the Barka 3 and Sohar 2 IPPs in May (MEED 22:5:10).

The Suez-led team is currently in final power purchase agreements (PPAs) negotiations with the offtaker.

Financing for the projects is also progressing. Germany’s Bayern LB, France’s Credit Agricole CIB and France’s Natixis backed the bid.

Other banks have since joined including France’s CIC, UK-based Europe Arab Bank, the UK’s HSBC and Germany’s KfW. Financial close is expected by the end of the summer.
