New airport planned for remote peninsula
Oman’s Transport & Communications Ministry has invited firms to submit bids by 12 October for a contract to prepare the masterplan for a new airport on the Musandam peninsula, which is separated from the rest of Oman by the UAE.
Four companies have collected documents so far. They are National Engineering Services Pakistan (Nespak), UK-based Pell Frischman, US-based Parsons International, and France’s Ginger Investment Management.
The Transport & Communications Ministry is moving ahead with a number of airport projects this year.
One of them is the development of New Sohar Airport in the Al-Batinah region. Companies have been invited to bid by 28 September for the second infrastructure works package on the scheme. In May Strabag won a RO38m ($99m) contract for the first phase of construction work.
Other airport projects are planned for Duqm, Salalah and Muscat.
