Oman invites bids for road upgrade

13 April 2011

The road runs between Sinaw, Muhat and Duqm

Oman’s Transport & Communications Ministry is inviting companies to submit bids by 13 June for a contract to upgrade a road.

The existing 372-kilometre single carriageway runs between Sinaw, Muhut and Duqm. The contract will involves expanding the road into a dual carriageway. The Transport & Communications Ministry is currently developing a port and an airport at Duqm and so the need for an upgraded road network to serve these developments is clear.

In December, South Korea’s Hanjin Heavy Industries & Construction Company won the $115m second infrastructure package at Duqm International airport in Oman (MEED 21:12:10). Package two covers the airfield infrastructure, which includes building a 4-kilometre-long runway.

Earlier in April, the ministry invited bids by 30 May for the expansion of Farq roundabout.

The work also involves expanding the existing one-lane road between Marfa and Daris into a dual carriageway.
