Sultanate is seeking technical consultant for planned photovoltaic plant

Oman Power & Water Procurement Company (OPWP) has invited firms to submit proposals for the technical consultancy role on the country’s second major photovoltaic (PV) solar independent power project (IPP).

Consultants have been invited to submit proposals by 13 November for the contract. The planned project, known as Solar 2022 IPP, will have a capacity of 500MW-1,000MW.

The 2022 solar project is the second planned major solar IPP in the sultanate. In February, OPWP received prequalification entries from 28 groups for a planned photovoltaic (PV) solar IPP at Ibri, about 300 kilometres inland from Muscat.

The proposed plant will have a power generation capacity of 500MW. In April, OPWP revealed the 12 groups that prequalified for the upcoming tender.

The solar projects form a central part of Oman’s programme to diversify energy sources for power generation. MEED recently reported that OPWP had invited firms to submit proposals for advisory roles on a planned waste-to-energy project.

The client has set a proposal submission date of 14 November for the roles of financial and commercial advisory services and legal advisory services.

The waste-to-energy project will be developed under the independent power producer (IPP) model. The project is part of the sultanate’s efforts to diversify resources for power generation while reducing the volume of waste sent to landfill sites.

The waste-to-energy plant will have the capacity to handle about 1.4 million tonnes of waste a year.
