Description: Highly efficient power plants such as Barka 3 and Sohar 2 fuel economic growth while preserving valuable resources. Operating in combined cycle, these two plants, each with an increased capacity of 750MW and an increased efficiency of more than 57 per cent, brought the total power production capacity of the Omani grid to 6,000MW. They contribute to the protection of the environment by guaranteeing lower nitrogen oxide and carbon dioxide emissions. Despite the engineering and construction challenges, the complexity of the collaboration and the additional requirements requested by the customer mid-project (including further consumer contracts, increased grid capacity and parallel construction of combined-cycle and early-cycle systems), Siemens was still able to drive a strong collaboration on a national scale to ensure all the challenges were met. The project was completed by the deadline, in time to meet Omans peak summer load.
