Oman prepares to open more hotels

Properties will open at Duqm, Nizwa and Musandam

Oman expects to open at least three new hotel developments over the next two years.

According to Abdul Wahid al-Farsi, vice president external affairs, Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) hotels projects in Duqm, Jebal al-Akhdar, and Khasab are nearing completion.

“The Crowne Plaza at Duqm will open at the end of this year,” said Al-Farsi at MEED’s Oman Investment Forum 2012 on 8 October. Omranawarded a OR16.7m ($43.3m) contract to the local Galfar Engineering & Contracting Company to build the hotel in 2010. The resort, which has been built on the sultanate’s Arabian Sea coastline, will have 228 rooms, including 11 executive suites and six smaller suites.

The Jebal Akhdar Hotel near Nizwa will open in the first quarter of 2014. Omran awarded the estimated OR14.1m contract to the local Dawood Contracting Company in 2011. The hotel will consist of two main buildings and a cluster of two-story buildings with guest accommodation.

The Khasab hotel on the Musandam peninsula will open at the end of 2013.
