Oman retenders contract to build Duqm plant

03 June 2008
Oman’s Rural Areas Electricity Company has retendered the project to build a power plant at Duqm, on the Gulf of Masirah in the east of the country.

Under the engineering procurement and construction contract, the successful bidder will build a 27MW power plant. The lump-sum turnkey contract also includes the relocation of five diesel generators from Salalah and four from Sur to the Duqm site.

The plant is scheduled to be commissioned in mid-2009. The consultant is Serbia’s Energoprojekt.

The deadline for bids is 7 July. Three companies have purchased tender documents. They are Oman National Electric Company, India’s Larsen & Toubro and the local Al-Jood Trading & Contracting.

A separate tender will cover the second phase of the project that will add 36MW of capacity, meeting demand in the area up to 2012 (MEED 11:5:07).
