04 October 2015

Two to three contractors vie for each of four packages

  • Ministry currently reviewing offers for packages seven, eight, nine and 10
  • Packages one to six, worth approximately $2.1bn, are currently under construction

Athens-based Consolidated Contractors Company (CCC) has submitted the lowest bid with a price of $202m for package 10 of the Batinah Expressway project in Oman.

The only other contender for package 10 was local firm Galfar Engineering and Contracting, which made an offer of $214.5m.

CCC had previously won a $322m contract for package six of the expressway project.

The client, Oman’s Transport & Communications Ministry (MOTC), has also opened the offers for packages seven, eight and nine.

Firms bidding for package seven include:

  • CCC ($257)
  • Galfar ($246m)
  • Sezai Turkes Feyzi Akkaya Oman (local) ($228m)

Firms bidding for package eight are:

  • CCC ($174m)
  • Sezai ($165m)
  • Galfar ($164m)

Contractors bidding for package nine include:

  • Galfar ($159.6m)
  • CCC ($157.4m)

The 265-kilometre-long Batinah Expressway will be Oman’s biggest road scheme and will link Muscat to the UAE border. The estimated budget for the project is about $2.6bn, but chances are the total value of the 10 contracts could exceed the budget by at least 9 percent. An eleventh package is also currently being tendered.

The contractors currently working on the various awarded packages include:
