Bidders invited to qualify for deal to acquire existing power plant and build a new one
Oman has begun seeking interest from potential bidders to develop a new independent power plant at Salalah.
The Oman Power and Water Procurement Company (OPWP) issued a request for qualification (RFQ) on 18 December. The new plant will have a capacity of 200-400MW, and OPWP also intends to include in the deal the sale of an existing 250MW power plant at the same site.
Combining the new plant and the acquisition of the existing one will mean that a successful bidder will be required to provide 450-650MW of power.
Responses to the RFQ are due by mid-February. Bidders will be qualified around a month later and a request for proposals is expected to be issued in May.
