Oman tenders hotel project

15 June 2011

Hotel resort will be located in Jabal al-Akhdar

The Oman Tourism Development Company (Omran) has invited contractors to submit bids for the main construction package on the planned Jabal al-Akhdar Resort.

Contractors have until 18 July to submit bids for the project in Jabal al-Akhdar. The hotel will be operated by the Singapore-based Alila Hotels & Resorts Group.

‘’Detailed designs were finished a couple of months ago and now the construction package has been tendered,’’ says a source close to the project.

In March 2010, UK-based Atkins was awarded a OR752,000 ($1.95m) contract to design the hotel resort. The hotel will consist of two main buildings and a cluster of two-story buildings with guest accommodation.

The front of the main buildings will contain restaurants, bar and kitchen facilities. The rear section of the main building will contain housekeeping, laundry and security facilities.

Guest rooms will be divided into two-storey buildings containing four or six units.

‘’Detailed designs were finished a couple of months ago and now the construction package has been tendered,’’ says a source close to the project.

The Jabal al-Akhdar hotel is the second hotel to be tendered in Oman this year. In January, the local developer The Wave received bids for the main construction package for the planned Kempinski hotel on its Wave development near Muscat.

At least seven groups submitted bids for the tender. The Kempinski will have 350 rooms with suites, as well as business and leisure facilities. The development is expected to open in the first quarter of 2013.

The mixed-use Wave project is being developed through a joint venture of UAE-based Majid al-Futtaim (MAF) and the Omani government (MEED 15:4:11).
