Selected firm to develop wastewater masterplan
State-owned Oman Wastewater Services Company (Haya Water) expects to award the consultancy contract for the $2.8bn state-wide wastewater project soon, according to a local media report.
The selected consultant will develop a detailed masterplan including a capital investment programme.
The masterplan will be based on a number of inputs that include:
- Population forecast
- Water demand and wastewater generation estimates
- Connection and coverage forecast
- Treated effluent production
- Sludge generation
The remit of Haya Water, which was originally responsible for water reuse and distribution in the Muscat governorate, has been expanded to cover wastewater collection and treatment, as well as treated effluent distribution, across the sultanate.
It has taken over over the estimated 58 sewage treatment plants (STPs) and 820km of sewerage networks currently in operation in the sultanate.
