Oman to intensify drive against unauthorised telecom devices

18 March 2012

Oman's Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) is to step up its drive against the sale of unauthorised telecommunication equipment in the country, Muscat Daily has reported. In the last two months, TRA officials have inspected over 90 shops and confiscated 50 mobile phones that were not type approved by the regulator. "We intend to intensify our drive against unauthorised equipment,'' Mahmood al Zadjali, senior specialist, in-charge of steering type approval and authorisation department, TRA, told the daily. "Five shops were caught selling equipment without type approval from the TRA and action has been taken against them," Zadjali said.
