Biography: Omur Akay is senior vice-president and managing director for the Middle East & North Africa at US-based engineering group CH2M Hill. Akay is responsible for the project management consultancy on the $12bn Shah Gas Development in Abu Dhabi.

The contract, which is being carried out by CH2M Hill’s subsidiary Veco Engineering, includes the engineering, procurement and construction phase of the project’s gas gathering facilities, non-process buildings and early site works.

The Shah project is expected to be completed by the end of 2014 and will produce 1 billion cubic feet a day of gas. Akay oversees CH2M Hill’s eight offices in the region, including in Egypt, Iraq, the West Bank, Jordan and Qatar. He studied at the Academy of Economy and Business Sciences at Gazi University, Turkey.
