One child survives Afriqiyah Airways crash in Tripoli

104 people died when Afriqiyah Airways flight number 771 crashed just one metre from the runway at Tripoli International Airport

An eight-year old boy is the sole survivor following a crash of an Afriqiyah Airways plane in the early hours 12 May.

All eleven crew and 93 passengers on board were killed in the crash of flight number 771, a spokesman for the airline confirmed to MEED.

The cause of the crash is currently being investigated. The plane crashed just one metre from the runway at Tripoli International Airport.

Afriqiyah will receive three more Airbus aircraft in the second half of 2010 and will have a fleet of 23 aircraft by 2017 in line with a deal signed with Airbus (MEED 18:4:10). The carrier currently has a fleet of nine aircraft.
