Search website Google announces region’s top queries

Google has revealed the UAE’s top search queries of 2010. Online services from banks and communications are among the fastest-rising search queries in the region.

“The UAE results show that more users are using the Internet to obtain information that is relevant to them, such as utility bill payment through Dewa [Dubai Electricity and Water Authority] and online banking. Searches for online services are on the uptake, which underpins the need for businesses to be online catering to their customer requirements,” says Ari Kesisoglu, Google’s regional manager.

‘Burj Khalifa’ and ‘Tartub’ a local social forum website topped the fastest-rising list. The most popular website searches were for Youtube, Facebook and Yahoo Mail.

Facebook was the most searched-for social network. There are more than two million subscribers to the site in the UAE and more than 20 million across the region.
