The Karachi Fisheries Harbour Authority (KFHA) has invited local and international developers to bid for the establishment of a desalination plant on a build-own-operate (BOO) basis.
The plant is to have a capacity of 1 million gallons a day, to be produced from both brackish groundwater and seawater. The operator will supply the water to KFHA at mutually agreed rates. The operator will have the option to purchase electricity from the Karachi Electricity Supply Corporation, or may produce its own electricity.
Further details of the project, including the duration of the concession, are yet to be finalised. Preliminary proposals are due to be submitted in October (see Tenders).
