The Capital Development Authority (CDA) plans to invite bids by the first half of July for the development of a new sector in Islamabad. The development of I-16 will involve the construction of roads, storm water, drainage, sewerage, water and electricity networks, as well as a gas network.

The design of the project, covering an area of 750 acres, has been prepared by CDA. The water and electricity works will be carried out by the Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA), while the gas network will be installed by Sui Northern Gas Company.

The development is estimated to cost more than $50 million. A final budget for the project will be allocated after the announcement of the federal budget, expected by the end of June.

CDA is also evaluating bids submitted by 28 local consultants for the design of the Kashmir highway expansion. The estimated $3.4 million project involves the expansion of the existing 4.1-kilometre single track into a dual track carriageway from Dokhri Chowk to Zero Point in Islamabad.

A consultant is expected to be appointed in early June. The construction tender will be floated by mid- July (MEED 1:5:98).
