PAKISTAN: Six groups bid for Fauji power

An award is expected before mid-June for the turnkey construction contract for a thermal power station to be built in Baluchistan by the local Fauji Electric Power Company. The project has fallen behind schedule with an award originally expected earlier this year.

Six groups are bidding for the contract.

They are:

Westinghouse Electric Corporation, with Foster Wheeler Corporation and Sargent & Lundy, all of the US, and the local Descon Engineering Germany's Siemens, with Babcock & Wilcox Canada and K&M Engineering & Consulting Corporation of the US the Anglo/French GEC Alsthom, with Japan's Ishikawajima-Harima Heavy Industries China Machinery Import & Export Corporation Black & Veatch. with Deutsche Babcock Riley, both of the US ABB Italy, with Germany's Euro Capital The plant will be oil-fired and will have a capacity of between 340-370 MW. The total cost of the project is expected to be about $320 million. Construction work is expected to take 32 months (MEED 8:3:96).
