Parsons Brinckerhoff first to Al-Raha Beach work

The US' Parsons Brinckerhoff (PB)has been appointed project manager on the estimated AED 54,000 million ($14,700 million) Al-Raha Beach development project in Abu Dhabi. The contract covers the scope and design definition, tender preparation and overseeing the project (MEED 3:6:05).

The Al-Raha beach project is planned to become a new city with a built-up area of 12 million square metres, of which 6.8 million square metres will be reclaimed. The scheme will comprise more than 50 high-rise towers, several low-rise developments on the waterfront, shopping malls and related facilities. The development will be home to about 120,000 people.

An award is imminent for the dredging and reclamation package, which will include about 40 million cubic metres to be dredged along eight kilometres of existing channel at Al-Raha, and the design and construction of revetments. UK-based Maunsellis the infrastructure design and construction management consultant.

Linked to the planned Khalifa Town A and the Al-Raha beach hotel, a network of water taxis is also planned to link the complex with Abu Dhabi's city centre and various islands such as Saadiyat. Australia's Malone Buchan Laird & Bawdenhas prepared the concept design; the project is being managed in-house by ALDAR Properties.
