Cargo traffic up 20.3 per cent in first six months
Abu Dhabi International Airport recorded an 11.7 per cent increase in passenger traffic in the first six months of 2010, compared to the same time the previous year.
The total number of passengers passing through Abu Dhabi airport in the first six months of 2010 was 5.1 million, according to the Abu Dhabi Airports Company (Adac).
In 2009, the total number of passengers in the first six months was 4.6 million. In both years, the majority of passenger traffic was from the Far East.
In June alone, a total of 866,000 passengers used Abu Dhabi airport. The airport also recorded a 20.3 per cent increase in cargo traffic and an 11.9 per cent increase in aircraft movements between January and June this year.
Adac attributes the growth to the network expansion of Abu Dhabi-based airline Etihad Airways.
Abu Dhabi International Airport recorded a 12.2 per cent increase in passenger traffic in May with 830,000 passengers travelling through the airport (MEED 30:6:10).
