PDO awards design work

Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)has awarded four contracts to provide design services worth an estimated $100 million in total. The contracts cover multi-discipline design services for oil and gas production facilities, pipeline and electrical infrastructure throughout Oman over a four-year period (MEED 31:5:02).

The selected engineers and their allocated design areas are: Mott MacDonaldcovering fields in Qarn Alam and Bahja; Parsons Group Oman Engineering, Fahud, Yibal, Lekhweir and associated electrical infrastructure; Electrowatt Engineering Oman, part of Finland's Jaakko Poyry Group, Mamul, Nima and Rima, and electrical infrastructure from 33kV to 132kV; and Tebodin Middle East, part of Tebodin of the Netherlands, all associated pipelines.

PDO is planning to invest heavily over the next five years to increase its oil recovery rate to 50 per cent from 23 per cent at present. The company envisages spending upwards of $1,000 million on improved oil recovery (IOR) and enhanced oil recovery (EOR) projects via the implementation of its Target 50 (T50) scheme (MEED 10:5:02).
