Petrofac wins KOC contract

Sharjah-based Petrofac Internationalhas been awarded the north Kuwait crude export expansion project. The contractor was the low bidder at KD 15.3 million ($51 million) for the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract, when bids were submitted by three companies last October. The client is Kuwait Oil Company (KOC- MEED 31:10:03).

The EPC contract includes the revamp of existing storage tanks and pipelines, the supply and installation of new facilities and modifications to the oil export system. The scheme will also link three gathering centre (GC) manifolds at GC 15, 23 and 25.

The project is being carried out to expand capacity in preparation for the increase in production that is expected to come from the development of the north field by international oil companies under Project Kuwait. Parsons Engineering Corporationof the US carried out the front-end engineering and design (FEED) work for the scheme.

Bidding is proceeding on several other major EPC contracts at KOC. Bids are due on 28 March for the expansion of GC 28, with the deadline for the replacement of flowlines contract set for 27 April.
