Shell is to build a bunkering terminal to provide different grades of fuels and lubricants to the port complex

Oman’s Port of Duqm Company has signed an agreement with Anglo-Dutch energy major Royal Dutch Shell’s subsidiary Shell Oman Marketing Company. The agreement is meant to develop fuel bunkering facilities and services at the port complex.

As per the deal, Shell is to build a bunkering terminal to provide different grades of fuels and lubricants as well as associated facilities to marine liners calling at Port of Duqm.

Shell, which operates in over 130 ports around the world, did not mention the value of the deal in its statement.

Port of Duqm Company is a 50:50 joint venture between the Omani government and Belgium’s Port of Antwerp.

The port has entered an early operations phase, with a fully functional port and commercial quay capable of handling heavy lift project cargo, general cargo, dry bulk and containers.

The port complex has a deep draught of 18 metres, lengthy quay walls and expansive basin. It has a current capacity of 100,000 to 200,000 20-foot containers, 4 million tonnes of dry bulk, and 1 million tonnes of project, break bulk and heavy lift cargos.
