The Iraqi level of co-operation on the first day of weapons inspections was a 'good sign', according to the leader of the UN Monitoring Verification & Inspection Commission (Unmovic) team.
'As far as we are concerned, we were able to carry out the activities that we had planned to carry out', Dimitri Perricos told reporters. 'You witnessed the immediateness of the access and that's a good sign and consistent with the commitment we had earlier'. Head of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) inspections team Jacques Baute was equally positive, saying: 'We have not sensed anything that obstructed us. We were welcomed in a polite and professional manner and we were able to do the job.'
