Prequals drawn up for Mukhaizna injection project

15 October 2004
Petroleum Development Oman (PDO)is close to finalising the prequalification list for front-end engineering and design (FEED) studies on the Mukhaizna thermal injection project. A shortlist of about four companies is due to be completed by the end of October and will then be passed to the Tender Board.

About four engineering companies are set to be prequalified. A full tender is expected to be issued by the end of the year, with engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) bids likely to be invited in the first quarter of 2005.

The estimated $1,500 million-2,000 million Mukhaizna project involves drilling about 1,500 wells and construction of about 60-100 steam plants, with the aim of boosting production to 60,000-80,000 barrels a day (b/d) by 2010, from about 15,000 b/d.

It is one of several enhanced oil recovery (EOR) schemes under way by PDO to increase dwindling output (Oman, MEED Special Report, 28:5:04, page 30).
